Hello my friends, it’s Friday evening as I’m typing and I have a busy weekend ahead (tutor’s stuff) so I thought I will share with you something short and sweet. And I immediately thought of making a card using the embossing technique I tried (not sure if I made it up) while making last year’s Christmas cards. Well, with the Christmas cards it turned out pretty amazing… I enjoyed using this technique and I am sure you will too. It really takes embossing to the next level and the effects are stunning.
If you want to take the use of embossing folders for a new adventure and create some awesome cards that will make jaws drop? Then this short video tutorial is exactly what you want – see how to use paint sticks to make the pattern burst with colours and shine with a gorgeous hollographic-like sheen.

I love experimenting – do you?
Finding a way to create a particular look without the recommended supplies always makes me want to try to find a way around. Or I catch myself thinking “what would this or that look like?” – and never can make the picture in my head until I actually try what I have on mind. The results are sometimes not really amazing, but in most cases I find a way to make things look good enough.
There are endless possibilities with the colours you can use with the same embossing design and that makes this embossing technique even better!
If you are a bit like me you probably have lots of crafty toys you have not used yet and although you think they are pretty, you find it so hard to figure out a way of using them. And then the inspiration strikes – you take some completely different tools, materials, toys and begin playing. Well, in my case it started with embossing folders I have had for a while but couldn’t think of any designs that would be good for them. So I took my paint sticks (thanks, Mum!) and started playing.
It turned out so much fun I made about 12 different Christmas designs with only two embossing folders and decided to come back to this technique later, this time with a different theme.
Playing some more
So recently I remembered about this technique and tried it with different folders. I know it can give some gorgeous effects, making the embossed image or pattern look absolutely amazing, especially when you use metallic paint sticks – alone or in addition to regular colours. Have a look for yourself – here’s a short video:
Loving the shiny look and texture? Try this and you won’t regret!
The technique, as you can see, is very easy. You will really enjoy playing with this way of colouring – trust me on this one! And once you make your first card you won’t stop thinking what ALL YOUR EMBOSSING FOLDERS would look like when coloured this way!
And here is s what I made:
This technique is really taking embossing to a whole new level. It may be a bit tricky with small details but once you try, you are going to love it – and you will enjoy using the old and forgotten embossing folders again and again.
What you need and might not have yet are the paint sticks. The ones I used for these cards I got from Poland but I have found very VERY similar ones on Amazon – with even a wider range of colours than mine. And they are very affordable – and efficient too! (Update: got my Paint Sticks from Amazon and I love them! Work exactly the same – fabulous!)
For those of you who are in the US – here are similar paint sticks you can get on Ebay:

Already have paint sticks? That’s fantastic, now pick an embossing folder and have fun playing with this new embossing technique 🙂
All for today
It’s time to say goodbye… haha… but not for long, I will be back soon with some crafty inspiration – I still have some toys I haven’t used 😉 And now that I have figured out the set for making videos (yupee!), I will try making them more often – no shaking, promise 🙂 I hope you enjoy today’s video and get inspired to try this embossing and colouring technique. Now I hope to hear back from you – what would you like me to share with you or what you have made with the embossing technique – so leave a comment below to share your thoughts 🙂
