Hello my creative friends. Do you know the feeling when you have to make a bunch of cards and you can’t figure out where to start? I guess every one of us gets this feeling sometimes. That’s why I have 10 quick & easy cards you can make using Paint Sticks.
10 Quick & Easy Cards ideas
I made these are cards a while ago. They went to the lovely winners of the giveaway I had with Little Brian. Those who know me know that I don’t like making two identical cards. That’s why I thought it’s a great opportunity to play a bit. I went for some simple designs that will show the beauty of paint sticks. And trust me, the photos don’t give them justice, the shimmer is there even though you can’t see it.

5 rainbow quick & easy cards
This is a pretty simple design – all you need is yellow, light green, dark green, light blue, dark blue and purple metallic paint sticks to make the background. I prefer using darker colours first, then blend them immediately with lighter ones before they dry. I matted the finished background on silver mirri card and mounted it all on white base card. The flowers are also stamped with paint sticks – you can read this post and watch the video on stamping with paint sticks here. The sentiment is die-cut from a card coloured with paint sticks too and glued onto a stripe of black card for contrast.
This one is quite similar to the first one, only here I also used pink and orange paint sticks for the background. All the flowers and leaves are stamped also with paint sticks and hand cut. And there’s the shimmer that’s not showing in the photo…
You can really go crazy with the rainbow colours here – any direction, horizontal, vertical or diagonal, will look gorgeous.
You can even play around with blending the colours – smooth or rough – it will all have its own charm.
Adding a few little embelishments, stamped flowers or die-cuts will make a lovely design. I personally prefer some contrasting colours but it’s all up to you.
Fooling around with colours – two more quick & easy cards
This card is a bit different – not quite a rainbow, but a kind of burst, fire-like design – just to show you how different looks can also be fun.
It is entirely up to you which colours you pick – each creation will be as individual and unique. And paint sticks are such a forgiving medium – if something goes wrong, use another colour over it. There is always a way to work around it.
Taking it a step further – 2 steps quick & easy cards with masking
Masking technique is such a great way to play with, especially with paint sticks. And the simplest masking method is with masking tape. If you want to learn more about masking I wrote an article on that and you can read it all here. There’s also a video for you there – to see masking in action.
But getting back to our quick & easy cards… If you want to play some more and make a little dimensional effect, here’s a trick for you. After you make the background and let it dry completely, take some washi tape and put it on the background. Then dab the colours just as they are a bit more over the tape and peel the tape off. IMPORTANT: The paint must be completely dry when you stick the washi tape on as well as when you peel it off or it may peel off with the tape.
You can play with different directions again, use wide or narrow tape – go crazy, experiment a little! On all kinds of backgrounds it works well!
Even when you need a rather calm and toned card, you can make it more interesting by dabbing metallic gold or silver over the masking tape regardless if you used a plain or metallic paint stick to make the background.
